Carl Alexander, Sr. started
the country ham business in 1950 along with his brother Gus. This
was a continuation of what the brother’s did for their father
during their early years.
In the beginning the company did all types of work with beef and
pork. Alexander’s made sausage, livermush, hamburger, etc.
Custom meat processing was also part of the business. Hams, shoulders,
and sidemeat were cured for customers using each person’s
individual hogs and the first hams and sidemeat were cured in a
converted out building behind Carl’s house.
As years passed, the fresh meat business was sold and the cured
meat business was expanded. Alexander Ham has been at the present
location since 1971.
The company is a small family business with the most of the employees
being family.
The Alexander’s strive to give their customers the best in
taste and quality at a reasonable price. The business has elected
to stay small because they want to give individual customers more
attention.
